Trailing 3-0 in the second inning, the Clarksburg JV Baseball team was looking for a big defensive play to get out of a jam. Unfortunately a tailor-made double play ball off the bat of the Sherwood hitter struck the field umpire, and was ruled a dead ball single. The Warriors went on to score 4 times in the inning.
Just like the hapless umpire, the Coyotes could not get out of their own way during their 16-0 loss to Sherwood.
Over the course of 5 innings, Clarksburg committed 5 errors and a number of other mental mistakes. Both Coyote pitchers struggled with command as they combined to allow 10 earned runs on 11 hits while walking 5 and hitting 5 batters.
The hot hitting that paced Clarksburg to their first two wins of the season went as cold as the snowy weather during their loss to Sherwood. Sophomore Bailey Arensmeyer recorded a single in the bottom of the first inning which would be the team’s only hit on the afternoon.
The Coyotes will need to bounce back quickly as Gaithersburg comes calling Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
