After getting rained out on Tuesday, the Clarksburg JV Baseball team returned to action and brought their bats as they tallied 12 hits during a 13-3 win over Seneca Valley.
Freshman Phillip Del Sordi started off the offense on a high note as he led the game off with a double. After an error by Seneca Valley, sophomore Chance Leo knocked in 2 runs with single up the middle. Sophomore Gabriel Gomez immediately followed that with a RBI single of his own. Freshman Max Bennett drove in Gomez with a sac fly to center to give the Coyotes a 4-0 lead after the 1st inning.
The Screaming Eagles led off the 2nd inning with a triple but Leo pitched out of a jam but striking out 3 consecutive batters. He earned the win by only giving up 2 earned runs over 4 innings of work while striking out 8 batters.
On the offensive side in the 2nd inning, freshman Bailey Arensmeyer hit a 2-out single to left, stole a base and then scored on another RBI single by Leo.
In the bottom of the 3rd, the Coyotes took advantage of two errors and two walks by Seneca Valley to scored 4 runs. Sophomore Ray Hopkins drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Arensmeyer drove in a run with a RBI single.
After the Eagles scored twice in the top of the 4th inning, the Coyotes got their 9-run lead back quickly. Junior Ryan Johns led off the inning with a double to left, and then stole third base. Gomez walked in the ensuing at bat and the two pulled off a perfect double steal to score a run. Freshman Christian Oven drove in Gomez with a RBI single in the next at-bat and the lead was back to 9.
Seneca scored an unearned run against Max Bennett in the 5th inning. Needing two runs to end the game, Hopkins led off with single and scored on an RBI by Del Sordi. Three consecutive walks later, Gomez drove in Del Sordi to end the game.
